- Utilizing several approaches, including:
- An intuitive approach through imagination and gut-feeling
- An analytical approach by building on the reality of the organization's current situation, expectations and aspirations
- A benchmarking approach by looking outside the organization for ideas and inspiration from competitors
- Crafting and refining each statement
- Creating a plan to introduce the new statements
- Reviewing progress to ensure that the organization is "living" the mission, moving toward the vision, and embodying the values
